Soundproofing Solutions for Hyperacusis
The Issue
Bryan Belmore needed soundproofing solutions for hyperacusis. He has a close family member with autism-related hyperacusis who lives in a noisy housing authority apartment. Noise from traffic outside of his apartment windows was causing extreme distress mentally, physically, and emotionally. Any background noise that most people would be able to “tune out” becomes a massive difficulty for him. Every layer of noise combines into a noisy, headache and nauseous inducing jumble of sound.
About the Client
Bryan Belmore is a residential homeowner who was looking to help solve a noise issue for a close family member.
Soundproofing Solutions for Hyperacusis Challenges
There were 3 windows in total, but we wanted to try to solve one and then move forward from there.
The first window we wanted to solve is (2) cottage double hung windows, set horizontally in the same window frame. The frame total is 5′ 8-1/2″ wide and 3′ 10-1/2″ high. The window ran directly into a corner section of two walls, so we needed to make sure that we had some extra material on one end with Velcro seams so that we would not have a gap in the corner where sound could leak through.
The Solution
Sound dampening curtains, sealing foam strips, and heavy blankets were insufficient solutions. After many months of suffering, it was suggested by a specialist that sound blankets may help reduce the noise. Mark Brock was contacted directly by the customer after their initial google search. PrivacyShield® Dual-Sided Absorptive Soundproofing Blankets were wisely suggested.
The Result
Noise coming in through the window was significantly reduced, which made a big difference in the family member’s daily life.
In the Customer’s Own Words
“After installing the ABSC-25 sound blankets the improvement in traffic noise was drastic. The quality of life has increased exponentially, bringing dignity to someone who truly deserves it. Mark Brock was exceptional from the start. I was impressed with every interaction. Emails were answered quickly and efficiently. I felt comfortable with asking any questions and discussing ideas with Mark. This was a very important project to me, and I felt that Mark cared to bring us to a satisfactory resolution. I am personally very grateful.”
