PrivacyShield® Light Hood BARPVSLH22S

Speech Privacy Without the Noise!

The PrivacyShield® Light hood is installed over lighting fixtures in a suspended ceiling to reduce sound and noise transmission, while maintaining air flow. Lighting fixtures have been identified as a significant path for speech and noise to enter and exit the ceiling plenum and travel to neighboring enclosed or open rooms.

Light hoods can be installed in both new and existing spaces to reduce the amount of sound transmitted from one space to the next. These are used when wall partitions do not extend up above the ceiling grid to the roof deck and offer an economical alternative to building full partition walls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install PrivacyShield® Light Hood over a high hat light fixture?

We specify our 2' x 2' PrivacyShield® Light Hood for this application.

I am concerned about the heat buildup in the light fixture if I cover it with eth PrivacyShield® Light Hood.

This is an important point to review: PrivacyShield® was designed from the start to ensure more than adequate ventilation so that the dissipation of heat from the light fixture was not impacted.

What is the downside of laying fiberglass batts above the ceiling tiles?

It is against building code to lay fiberglass directly onto or against light fixtures.

Does the Light Hood sit on the light?

No, the light hood does not sit on the light, it sits on the ceiling grid and ceiling tiles. The light hood provides for a vented 2" air space around the light fixture.

Does the Light Hood affect the fire rating of the ceiling?

No, a Class A Fire Rated ceiling will remain a Class A fire rated ceiling.

Do we need to use the Mastic and tape?

Mastic is what holds the light hood hold in place when tiles are put in place or removed.

Can I install in an office area that has sound masking?

Yes.
