Acousti-Mat® Floor Underlayment is used to increase sound isolation and reduce impact noise in wood, concrete, and steel deck construction assemblies. This acoustic floor underlayment can improve the IIC (Impact Insulation Class) by up to 12 points over a wood frame and up to 20 points over concrete. Typical assemblies include wood frame, concrete, open beam, mass timber, and light gauge steel construction.
The Acousti-Mat® Floor Underlayment is made of extruded nylon filaments which form a three-dimensional core with a non-woven fabric, heat-bonded to its upper surface. This product is often a component in concrete and gypcrete floor assemblies. Acousti-Mat® has an impressive IIC and STC (sound blocking) rating for all assemblies but carries no STC rating as a stand-alone material. The durable yet pliable construction of Acousti-Mat® sound control matting lowers structural sound transmission by its ability to convert and store vibrational energy.
Recommended applications for Acousti-Mat® floor underlayment include commercial and residential multi-story buildings such as condominiums, apartments, office buildings, hotels, schools, athletic floors, and more. The Acousti-Mat® Perimeter Isolation Strip is used to isolate around the walls and other protrusions in the flooring when installing the Acousti-Mat® sound control mat. The product is extremely flexible and light, making it easy to install and handle.
Acousti-Mat® acoustic floor underlayment may be used in new construction and renovations.
The Multifamily Standard of Sound Control—Ideal upgrade for condominium living. Increases IIC levels up to 13 points over wood frame, and up to 20 points over concrete. Increases STC rating 6–15 points over bare wood frame system.

This floor soundproofing mat is ideal for new construction and retrofit applications across a wide range of flooring systems.
Acousti-Mat® provides numerous benefits that go beyond standard floor underlayments:
Increases impact insulation class (IIC) by up to 25 points, depending on the subfloor type.
Helps increase sound transmission class (STC) by up to 15 points, reducing airborne noise between floor levels.
Works with concrete, wood, open beam, and light gauge steel assemblies.
The entangled mesh construction is both resilient and easy to handle during installation.
Choose from standard or premium mats, including high-performance options for luxury developments or exposed ceiling systems.
Class 1/A fire rating per ASTM E84, suitable for commercial and residential use.
Looking for an acoustic underlayment for a condo or a sound mat for a commercial build-out? Acousti-Mat® delivers unmatched performance.
Acoustic underlayments, like the Acousti-Mat® sound mat, play an important role in reducing noise between floors and are a key part of high-quality floor and ceiling setups. These products work by creating a resilient buffer layer between structural subfloors and the finished flooring surface, effectively decoupling the two and disrupting the transmission path of sound. The Acousti-Mat® floor soundproofing mat features an entangled mesh design that helps absorb and break up vibrations caused by footsteps, moving furniture, or dropped items—greatly cutting down on impact noise that would normally travel through hard flooring. This function is critical in multilevel buildings where impact sound is one of the most common noise complaints.
By incorporating Acousti-Mat® into a flooring system and topping it with a concrete or gypcrete layer, the assembly forms a floating floor that isolates sound and prevents it from passing between units. This not only improves the Impact Insulation Class (IIC) rating but also contributes to higher Sound Transmission Class (STC) performance, helping to block airborne sounds like voices, music, and television. These enhancements are especially important in settings such as condominiums, apartment complexes, hotels, schools, and commercial offices, where acoustic comfort and code compliance are top priorities.
The resilient nature of this acoustical floor underlayment ensures long-term durability while maintaining consistent sound-control performance under load. Building a new luxury home or updating an older multiunit building? An acoustic underlayment like Acousti-Mat® helps reduce noise and create a quieter, more comfortable space.
Proper installation is key to the performance of any acoustic underlayment. Here are a few tips to maximize your results:
This acoustic underlayment is designed for quick, hassle-free integration into common floor assemblies.
What is an acoustic underlayment and why do I need it?
An acoustic underlayment, also known as a sound attenuation mat or floor soundproofing mat, is a material installed beneath flooring to reduce impact noise and improve sound insulation. It’s especially important in multistory buildings where reducing sound between floors is key for both comfort and meeting building code requirements.
How much does Acousti-Mat® improve IIC and STC ratings?
Acousti-Mat® can improve Impact Insulation Class (IIC) by up to 25 points and Sound Transmission Class (STC) by up to 15 points, depending on the floor assembly. Premium options provide the highest levels of sound attenuation for demanding applications.
Can I use Acousti-Mat® under hardwood, tile, or vinyl flooring?
Yes. Acousti-Mat® is compatible with a variety of flooring types when installed beneath a gypcrete or concrete topping. This creates a stable, floating floor system ideal for hardwood, tile, LVT, and other hard-surface finishes.
Is Acousti-Mat® suitable for renovations as well as new construction?
Absolutely. Acousti-Mat® is lightweight and flexible, making it an excellent choice for both renovation projects and new builds. It’s particularly useful in condo retrofits, warehouse-to-residential conversions, and sound-sensitive upgrades.
What’s the difference between the standard and premium versions?
Premium versions of Acousti-Mat® include an extra layer of acoustical fabric, which provides enhanced noise control—especially for impact noise. Premium mats offer higher IIC ratings and are ideal for luxury residences, hotels, and high-performance acoustic applications.
