The Issue

Heliotrope Brewery is an amazing brewery and restaurant in the heart of Lexington, Virginia. Their tasting room is comprised of high ceilings, wood floors, and brick walls. This made the space very loud with echo that was causing issues for customers and wait staff.

About the Client

Heliotrope is a majority woman-owned business, with a community-first mindset. They strive to cook and brew with as many local ingredients as possible. They use produce grown within a few miles of the brewery, and barley harvested and malted in Virginia. The walls are hung with rotating local artwork, not televisions, and their taproom is set with community tables intended to promote conversation with friends, new and old, over a shared meal or a round of beers. The Challenge

The size of the tasting room combined with the reflective surfaces of the floors, walls, and ceilings was causing a large amount of echo. The environment was making it so that customers could not easily have conversations. The wait staff and kitchen staff also had a hard time hearing and being heard, and no one could clearly hear the music being played through the speaker system.

The Solution

Alphasorb® Fabric Wrapped Acoustic Clouds were suggested to be flush-mounted on the ceilings so that the local artwork could remain on the walls. After calculating the volume of the space, Dave suggested the proper number of panels to bring the room down to a comfortable level. The panels are extremely functional providing excellent sound absorption while blending into the aesthetics of the room.

The Result

Music is now able to be clearly heard. The wait staff and kitchen staff can now communicate more effectively. Customers are happier and can enjoy Heliotrope Brewery even more now.
