The Enkasonic® Perimeter Isolation Strip is as an edge border used with Enkasonic® Floor Underlayment in order to prevent structural sound transmission. The product is extremely flexible, lightweight, easy to install and handle. The material is sold by the roll, 3″ wide x 250′ in length and 1/4″ thick. The Perimeter Isolation Strip is packaged on a roll for long placement runs and limited cutting.
The Enkasonic® Perimeter Isolation Strip should be installed at the perimeter of all areas receiving the Enkasonic® Floor Underlayment. It should also go around any protrusions in the flooring. This procedure isolates the sound mat floor system from other material. This isolation creates an acoustical break that minimizes the transmission of sound laterally from the “floating floor” to any other construction assembly. Adhere the foam perimeter isolation strip to the wall or staple as close as possible to the top of the foam strip, above the height of the poured floor.
Apply acoustical sealant to the lower 1″ backside of the perimeter isolation strip. The perimeter isolation strip should exceed the planned height of the floor system by 1″ (2.5cm). Firmly press and adhere the isolation strip to the wall or vertical partition (including door frames) surrounding the perimeter of the subfloor receiving the Enkasonic system. Be sure to install around the perimeter of any protrusion through the floor system. This would apply to floor drains, columns, pipes, electrical conduits, or other penetrations into the floor system.
