The Issue

The Fannin County Multipurpose Complex is a popular community event center. Recently, they set out to improve the experience of the events held in the facility. Operated by the Bonham, Texas Area Chamber of Commerce, the Fannin County Multipurpose Complex is a popular event center. Unfortunately, just due to the size of this building, it was impossible to carry on a conversation and hear what the other person was saying.

The Fannin County Multipurpose Complex installed AlphaSorb® Fabric Wrapped Panels to provide the best sounding environment for hosting events like concerts, weddings, galas, banquets, county fairs and, other community gatherings.

The Challenge

Dale McQueen of the Chamber first contacted Acoustical Solutions to discuss their possible solutions. Their event space houses events like concerts, banquets, awards ceremonies, weddings, exhibitions, county fairs, and much more. This is an all-metal building 200′ x 120′. The side walls are 20′ high and go up to a 30′ peak in the center of the room. Buildings of this size, with no acoustical treatment, are loud and reverberate. Since this facility hosts so many types of events, it is imperative to create a great-sounding space. After having a few events, the chamber quickly became aware of this issue and sought to correct it. The decision, after several meetings over many months and possible product ideas, was to install acoustical panels on the walls. Since this was a project the Chamber would manage, Acoustical Solutions gave guidance on the amount of square footage needed and placement advice. The Chamber’s project team came up with the final panel sizes and layout. Since the Fannin County Multipurpose Complex would be occupied by hundreds of people at any given time, the Chamber had one specific concern. Could the panels meet the city’s building fire code? Acoustical Solutions submitted all the necessary paperwork. Since our AlphaSorb® Fabric Wrapped Acoustic Panels meet Class A public building code requirements, they were approved for use.

The Solution

The AlphaSorb® Fabric-Wrapped Acoustic Panels were an obvious choice. A series of eight-foot panels on the lower portion and four-foot panels on the upper row provide ample sound control. Spread evenly around the room, they both enhance and absorb the sound. With guidance from Acoustical Solutions, the Chamber’s team was able to complete the installation completely on their own, including many panel cuts for supply vents, returns, and sprinkler lines.

The Result

The Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce could not be happier with the end results. After a follow-up site visit upon the project’s completion, it looks amazing. To say the job was done professionally might just be an understatement! From the Client: “The panels are all up and the difference is better than we expected. We had about 300 people in the building last night with a sound system and it worked great! Even with only 10-12 people in the building, you do not hear the echo like before.”
