Lobar Associates Daycare Center Acoustics

Lobar Associates outfitted a daycare with custom-cut AlphaSorb Flat Foam Ceiling Clouds.

The Issue

Lobar Associates was tasked with coming up with a unique idea to control reverberation in a Daycare Center without just adding fabric-wrapped acoustical wall panels. They came across some projects on our website where we were cutting Flat Acoustical Foam into different shapes. We were asked to come up with a hanging ceiling cloud that looked like a cloud. The room was in dire need of some sound absorption since it was occupied by many younger children. Large open areas will tend to get loud with chatter and noise coming from the children. Without an appropriate acoustic environment, hearing one another clearly can be difficult.

The Solution

Acoustical Solutions solved their sound issues using AlphaSorb® Flat Acoustic Foam. This is also the same product as studio foam. The (18) ceiling clouds used ranged from 4’x8′ to 3’x4′ at a thickness of 4." This acoustical foam was not only Class A Fire-rated, but also had a very high sound-absorption rating. The clouds were installed with Corkscrew Hangers and Acoustic Baffle & Cloud Cable Kits. This made the installation much easier and faster for Lobar Associates. Shortly after installing the clouds, the Daycare Center realized the positive effect it had on taming down the room. The material truly enhanced the visual design and the acoustic environment.

The Result

The daycare’s goal was to provide an environment that was much quieter for the children and the employees. The AlphaSorb® Flat Acoustic Foam did an excellent job with not only the look, but also with the sound.
