The Maymont Foundation
The Issue
Daniel Vetter from The Maymont Foundation contacted Acoustical Solutions to help with a echo issue they were having in some of their meeting rooms. The Westover Facility is a modern Mediterranean style venue with unique historic features and an outdoor courtyard. It is ideal for weddings and corporate or private rentals. The Garden Hall Building is a 1769sf venue perfect for corporate and private events housing the Magnolia and Peacock rooms for separate or all inclusive events.
About the Client
Maymont is a 100-acre historic estate and park, located in Richmond, Virginia, with many unique experiences for all to enjoy. Stroll through the gardens and arboretum, see native wildlife habitats, feed friendly goats, explore The Robins Nature Center and visit the Mansion. Whether planning a wedding, corporate outing or family event, Maymont is the perfect backdrop for memories that will last a lifetime.
The Challenge
The challenge was that some of the meeting and event spaces had lots of hard surfaces and were full of echo when multiple voices were in the rooms. Some of the space was carpeted so sound was not as much of an issue. When the rooms recently upgraded to a laminate floor for easier cleaning, it created a much higher noise level and made some of the rooms less appealing for event use.
The Solution
Daniel Vetter from Maymont consulted with Acoustical Solutions Noise Control Expert, Mark Brock, and it was decided that the best plan of action would be to have sales engineer, Chad Glenn, come onsite to come up with a solution to the issue. After visiting the site and taking measurements, we were able to come up with a panel layout using the Alphasorb® Fabric Wrapped Ceiling Clouds in Guilford of Maine Whisper Fabric. We went with ceiling mounted panels so that they would blend in better and not interfere much with the existing wall colors and décor.
The Result
With the install of the panels, the echo/noise level has been greatly reduced to a much more pleasant level. Meetings and events are more productive due to the fact that the acoustics within each room are better leading to a better overall experience for patrons.
In the Customer’s Own Words
“We have some historic buildings with hardwood floors and plaster walls that were causing significant echoes throughout numerous spaces. Acoustical Solutions has done work on multiple facilities for us and provided excellent customer service, quality product, and an excellent overall experience. The result is that our spaces have significantly less echo and the solutions were aesthetically pleasing.”
