Baltusrol Golf Club

The Issue

The Baltusrol Country Club was going through a complete remodel. They needed to replace some old existing acoustical wall panels and create a custom ceiling mount panel that is only 1/4″ thick.

About the Client

Founded in 1895, Baltusrol Golf Club has enjoyed a long and rich history in golf and has played a prominent role on the national golf stage for over 125 years.

The Challenge

The ceiling panels in this room were more for aesthetics than sound absorption. The architect required the panels to be no more the 1/4″ thick and trimmed out with some custom wood moldings. Many different submittals were sent to the architect for approval. Acoustical Solutions was able to come up with a panel that met the required thickness, fabric choice, and provided some sound absorption above a conference room table.

The Solution

Since standard acoustical panels are available in 1/2″ – 2″, we used an 1/8″ high impact facing and laminated two sheets together to meet the 1/4″ requirement. The High Impact facing is typically applied to a 1″ or 2″ thick AlphaSorb® High Impact Acoustic Panel, making it more durable and impact resistant. Laminating the two sheets together was the perfect solution.

Panels sizes provided for this project ranged from 18″ x 29″ to 30″ x 30″. The fabric chosen for the project was Guilford of Maine Studio 54 – color 7032 Hustle. This fabric also provides a durable and cleanable surface. The combination of the two laminated sheets of High Impact facing along with the Studio 54 fabric still meets the ASTM E84 Fire Rating of Class A-1.

The Result

Once the install was completed all parties were happy with the aesthetics and the added sound absorption from a ¼” ceiling panel. The custom wood trim finished the install off with no visible mounting points.

Projects like this make you look outside of the box to come up with a solution that meets all the requirements.
