The Issue
The Prep Schools is a private childcare facility that reached out to Acoustical Solutions for help with a sound problem affecting the children’s enjoyment of a room in their building. Their Austin Texas location needed acoustical treatment for a large multipurpose room. The room is 19’x32’ and has tall ceilings The room is comprised of all hard surfaces making the space very loud with way too much echo. There were complaints from parents and management, so a decision was quickly made to correct the problem using acoustic wall panels as soon as possible to keep the children happy and comfortable when using the room.

About the Client
The Prep Schools is a private childcare and after school facility. They are dedicated to providing the highest level of early childhood education in a safe and secure environment that nurtures each child’s individual needs. The Prep Schools have multiple locations throughout Texas and Nevada.
The Challenge
The multipurpose room is a much-needed space for the children to enjoy, however the use of that space was limited due to the loud echo-especially when many children were using it at play time. The Prep Schools reached out to Acoustical Solutions for help. After reviewing the many options available, the school decided on Alphaenviro Ripstop Acoustic Panels.
The Solution
AlphaEnviro® Ripstop Acoustic Panels provide an extremely effective and durable solution to bring a room down to the appropriate reverb time. The panels are available in a variety of colors and can be custom made to most any size. These sound absorbing panels look perfect in a multipurpose room or gym and offer high durability and high sound absorption. After reviewing the details of the room, the recommendation was made to install the appropriate number of panels to bring the room down to a comfortable 1.5 second reverberation time which is recommended for a multipurpose room. A 1.5 second reverb time allows for general speech and music intelligibility and provided a dramatic difference in auditory comfort level.

The Result
The room is significantly quieter, it feels like an entirely different space now. The students can now enjoy their activities without the loud echo and difficulty hearing. Teachers and staff can now enjoy their time with the children without having to cope with a loud uncomfortable room.
