Introduction

Acoustic Blankets have may uses. They are manufactured in two typical configurations: sound blankets that absorb sound to reduce noise reflections as well as absorber-barrier combination blankets that both absorb and block sound. They can be used as industrial enclosures to quiet down a piece of equipment, or mounted direct to wall to help with sound transmission in a mechanical or band practice room. Soundproof blankets also have outdoor applications that include chiller walls, construction areas and residential applications such as HVAC and pool pump enclosures. Other residential applications include Soundproof Blankets for doors and windows.

What are Soundproof Blankets?

Soundproof blankets, also known as soundproof curtains, consist of different layers. A non-reinforced 1-lb or 2-lbs per square foot mass loaded vinyl barrier center between two layers of recycled fiberglass and a vinyl coated quilted cloth face. An example is our PrivacyShield® Dual-Sided Absorptive Soundproofing Blanket. Other options would be a reinforced barrier backer with a quilted absorber face, such as our PrivacyShield® Absorptive Soundproofing Blanket. This blanket is also available as an exterior version. Our AlphaSorb® Dual-Sided Absorptive Sound Blanket has high NRC ratings to help with reflections.

Why are Soundproof Blankets Important?

Soundproof Blankets can help lower sound ratings in production areas meeting OSHA requirements for noise levels. This will allow workers to remain in some areas longer. Sound Blankets may be mounted to fences or other structures to create temporary or permanent sound barriers for construction sites, highways, noisy equipment or to block the direct path of other exterior noise sources. Using them on a construction site fence can also help meet city noise requirements. This product is also very durable.

Tips and Reminders for Soundproof Blankets

When it comes to Soundproof Blankets, many options are available. They can be tailored to your project, but specific project needs will determine the proper blanket type and quantity. Just keep in mind — Absorber Blankets only absorb reflections they do not block sound. Combination Blankets both absorb and block sound. It’s always good to know where the sound is coming from and the goal you want to achieve.
