Introduction
When it comes to pre-manufactured acoustic panels, there are many options. Fabric wrapped, polyester, P.E.P.P., wood fiber, foam, cotton, and metal are all common acoustic panel types. P.E.P.P. is an industry abbreviation for Porous Expanded Polypropylene. These panels are Class A fire rated, can be used indoors and have sound blocking and sound absorption qualities.
What are P.E.P.P. Acoustic Panels?
P.E.P.P. acoustic panels are made from porous expanded polypropylene. Expanded polypropylene is a closed-cell bead foam that is durable, has a high impact resistance, good sound absorption and blocking performance, is bacteria and fungi resistant, and is 100% recyclable. These panels are very porous but do not promote bacteria or fungi growth. P.E.P.P. panels are manufactured in standard 2’x2′ and 2’x4′ sizes in 1″ and 2″ thicknesses and come with either a flat or designer convoluted face in either charcoal or white colors. They are easily mounted to walls or ceilings using construction adhesive. P.E.P.P. panels are unique because they have sound blocking (STC) as well as sound absorption (NRC) qualities. The highly porous nature of the panel turns acoustic energy into kinetic energy very effectively. This allows not only good sound absorbing performance but also a low level of sound blocking performance.
P.E.P.P. Acoustic Panel Applications
Unlike many other acoustic panels, P.E.P.P. panels can be used indoors and outdoors. Moisture and climate have no ill effects on performance or composition. Their durability and moisture resistance make them ideal for kennels, aquatic centers, gun ranges, and loading docks.
Acoustic Panels in a Gun Range
P.E.P.P. panels are ideal for gun ranges because they can be washed or sprayed down easily to remove gun powder residue.
Acoustic Panels in a Restaurant
Being bacteria and fungi resistant, P.E.P.P. panels are ideal for restaurants especially in black or white ceilings.
Summary
P.E.P.P. acoustic panels are a great product for indoor as well as outdoor applications where durability and moisture exposure are primary factors.
