Integrity Christian School
The Issue
The Integrity Christian School in Newberg, West Virginia had a multi-purpose room very similar to those found in most churches or schools. However, due to the acoustics in the room, it wasn’t suitable for many purposes.
The Challenge
The Integrity Christian School has a 40′ x 48′ x 16′ room with very hard reflective surfaces all around: plaster walls, a metal ceiling, and a concrete floor.
The room was originally used mostly for recreational purposes such as basketball, due to the excessive reverberation and echo the room produced. Speech could not be understood easily in the space, eliminating the possibility of holding instruction or assemblies.
The school contacted Acoustical Solutions in search of an acoustical treatment for the room. Acoustical Solutions ran a reverberation report and determined the level to be approximately 6 – 6-3/4 seconds long. The goal was to bring the reverberation time down to 1.5 – 2.0 seconds.
The Solution
Acoustical Solutions determined that 24 4′ x 8′ x 2″ AlphaEnviro® Ripstop Acoustic Panels flush mounted to walls and spaced evenly around the perimeter of the room would be the perfect fix.
The team chose Ripstop Nylon> material for the AlphaEnviro® Acoustic Panels because the space was a multi-purpose room. The treatment would need to stand up to some abuse from basketballs and volleyballs. The team also installed AlphaEnviro® Sound Baffles along the ceiling to absorb sound energy that accumulated in the raised ceiling.
